The IICO - UASLP was created by decision of the University Board of Directors in October 1990 with the following objectives

To develop scientific and technological research in areas related to the science and technology of optical communications.

To contribute to the training of highly qualified researchers and technicians in the country in the areas of competence of the Institute.

To create a center for the development of technological projects of interest to the public and private sectors of the country.
